It seems that we are not the only people who are crazy about pies this week! Oliver Stallwood from the Metro highlights the fact that ’sales of the pastry-encased dishes have increased by 17 million in the past 12 months’. Another amazing fact he mentions is that ‘Down Under, a dogs eye (meat pie) with a bit of dead horse is considered a national dish, with Australians eating almost 260 million a year’. British Pie Week is finally upon us, so all pie lovers out there have a great excuse to head down to Urban Pie. We are very excited to welcome two brand new pies to our menu. The Cottage Pie is unlike anything else out there, made up of delicious pastry, deep-filled with minced beef, seasonal vegetables and topped with creamy handmade mash. A new twist on a classic British dish that is a must try for all pie lovers out there!
We also welcome a tasty traditional Chicken & Mushroom pie to the menu, filled with succulent chicken breast and whole button mushrooms.

Barry Rigby 36 took the title of at the 15th World Pie Eating Championships, which is held every year at Harry’s Bar in Wallgate, Wigan. Wigan-born Barry, 36, munched his way through a meat and potato pie in an amazing time of 43 seconds. Barry, said: “I have never entered it before and just thought I’d give it a go. I never thought that I would win but hopefully my friends and family will be very proud”.

There’s a rumour going round that our famous Pie Man will be returning to the Bullring and will be giving shoppers in Birmingham a surprise visit! If you spot the Pie Man about, let us know!
